Soft Tissue Mass Excision

Soft tissue can be prone to growths that form under the skin, known as soft tissue masses. Cysts and tumours are two of the most common soft tissue masses that form, but these are generally non-cancerous.

Symptoms of soft tissue masses

There are little or no warning signs that a mass will occur. They typically appear as a protruding bump or lump under the skin that is soft and painless.

Benign masses may develop painful symptoms as they grow, whereas malignant masses expand rapidly and cause painful symptoms.

Causes of soft tissue masses

Soft tissue masses can occur anywhere in the body, but the reason for this is not always known.

Benign masses develop in one area and stay there, although they slowly grow. On the other hand, malignant masses develop and move to other parts of the body, which is what makes them more severe.

Excising soft tissue masses

Dr Seevasgath will perform a complete diagnosis before determining whether an excision is the right option. During diagnosis, he will assess the type of soft tissue mass and your medical history to conclude treatment.

The various treatment options for soft tissue masses are:

  • Observation: This method is used for benign masses that don't appear to have a severe risk for the time being. Dr Seevasgath will monitor the mass over time and provide conservative treatment.
  • Marginal excision: When a mass is more advanced, Dr Seevasgath will remove parts of it to prevent further growth.
  • Total excision: A total excision is a standard treatment for malignant masses where the entire growth and surrounding tissue must be removed to prevent the spread of abnormal cells.

Should you be concerned about any bumps or have questions regarding soft tissue masses, contact Dr Seevasgath for an appointment.
